    We are looking for the brightest students, recent graduates, and Post-Doctoral candidates to add to our team as junior staff. All Internships are Telecommute positions that are designed to test your knowledge, skills ability to communicate via electronic means with the staff of SciEssence. Your Portfolio Resume, which needs to be detailed reguarding your skills, knowledge and experience, must be in IEEE compliant format an in HTML or Plain Text. The top 25 applications in any given area will be offered internships, and the top 3 interns in each catagory will be submitted for employment and contracting opportunities at SciEssence.
    Your assignments are based on existing technology developed by experienced engineers. Those engineers will review your work and provide you with feedback and a final review and recommendations for employment. Internships will vary in length from 4 weeks to 4 months depending on your available time and skill level. Details of the internship projects will be provided after you sign and return a Please download the NDA, digitally sign it using Adobe Acrobat and include the signed document with your Portfolio Resume.
    You will also need to use PGP or GnuPG (www.pgpi.org, www.gnupg.org, www.winpt.com) to encrypt email and files, and to receive our encrypted emails and files. Include your OpenPGP Public Key with your Portfolio Resume.
    Linux is the "OS of Choice" for SciEssence except where required by specialized tools.
    ISO9001:2000 and ISO13485 (Medical Device) as well as IEEE Standards for Hardware and Software Engineering & Quality should be known and must be followed for engineering internships.
    We expect interns to show their professionalism by keeping in close contact with your supervisor on at least a weekly basis by sending in status reports, if not more often. Your MUST have reliable internet access and an Email account.


Graphic Artist Intern Apply
Job Purpose:

  • Editing/Updating Adobe Illustrator 9 files under the direction of the head Graphic Artist
  • Locate Public Domain graphics and edit as necessay
  • Animate GIF graphics
  • Coordinate graphics collections for style and content
Skills you will develop:
  • Working with Adobe Illustrator 9 for vector graphics editing
  • Working with Image Magic or other GIF and JPEG bitmapped graphics editors
  • Working with GIF Animation tools
Knowledge/Training/Skills Required:
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator 9 and bitmapped graphics editing tools
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 procedures helpful
  • Fluency in email and PGP encryption tools required
Embedded Java Software Engineers (2 Catagories) Apply
Job Purpose:
  • The primary functions of the Java Interns are to develop embedded Java applications, demonstrating their knowledge in Java for embedded applications.
  • Design Swing based UIs for simple embedded applications
  • Develop either XML command and control for SCSI/ATAPI (Catagory 1) devices or Serial Interfaces (Catagory 2)
Skills you will develop:
  • Design of Java for embedded systems
  • XML Interfacing from Java
  • SCSI/ATAPI programming and Java NMI
  • Serial Interface programming in Java
Knowledge/Training/Skills Required:
  • Exerience with Java development tools on Linux, Windows and MacOSX.

Perl/PHP Scripting Intern Apply
Job Purpose:
  • Perl/PHP script editing of web based enterprise systems development
  • Use Configuration Management software for managment of script modifications
  • Support Engineering and Accounting Staffs' Development needs
Skills you will develop:
  • Maintainance of Perl, PHP, HTML/XML documents, Porting of ASP to PHP and PostgreSQL
  • Understanding of e-Commerce and Accounting systems design and development
  • Understanding of ebXML e-Commerce standards
  • Understanding of multivendor order processing and fulfillment

Knowledge/Training/Skills Required:
  • Programming in Perl and PHP

FPGA Engineers Interns (2 Catagories)Apply
Job Purpose:
  • The primary functions of the FPGA Interns are to define, document and execute FPGA design and sythesis for electronic circuits.
  • Contribute to Requirements and Functional Specifications
  • Assist in estimating the technical feasibility of project inquiries.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings with SciEssences' Project team and others over the Internet
  • Support when or if required in the following tasks:
  • Estimation and tracking of time spent on design and support issues
  • Clarify installation and implementation procedures and specifications
  • Respond to questions generated by the customer or subcontractor regarding the detailed design.
  • Participate in system commissioning
  • There are 2 Catagories for this Section, "High Speed Digital & Mixed Signal" and "Low Speed Digital & Mixed Signal"
Skills you will develop:
  • Digital Design of FPGAs
  • Schematic editing of FPGA components using Xilinx WebPack
  • System Verification, Physical Design and Validation and prototype manufacturing of FPGA components

    • Knowledge of high speed digital and mixed signal circuits design and engineering
    • Knowledge of IEEE 488.1-2003/IEEE 488.2-2004 and RapidIO

Firmware Intern (2 Catagories) Apply
Job Purpose:
  • The primary functions of the Firmware Interns are to define, document and execute Firmware needed to control embedded systems
  • Contribute to Requirements and Functional Specifications
  • Assist in estimating the technical feasibility of project inquiries.
  • Participate in project turnover (online) meetings with SciEssences' Project team and others.
  • Support when or if required in the following tasks:
    • Estimation and tracking of time spent on design and support issues

  • Currently a graduate student working on an EE degree.

Device Driver Interns (3 Catagories) Apply
Job Purpose:

  • The primary functions of the Device Driver Interns are to define, document and execute Device Drivers and Test Applications
  • Contribute to Requirements and Functional Specifications
  • Assist in estimating the technical feasibility of project inquiries.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings with SciEssences' Project team and others.
  • Support when or if required in the following tasks:
